Walker the Wild Side

One of the joys of the internet is that you can find, and re-find, images, interests and people so easily. Ages ago I was introduced to the fantastic (in all senses) photos of Tim Walker, but have struggled recently to remember his name. The photo of Lily Cole, one of his favourite muses, in a long blue tumultuous dress at the top of an ornate spiral staircase appears  scattered through pinterest but not usually with a credit. But at last I've rediscovered him, in part because of the recent film he made with Olympia Campbell, (Edie's little sister) called 'The Lost Explorer'. His photos are so much more than mere fashion shoots, they summon up  whole strange worlds, some slightly sinister, some suggesting melancholy, but many full of reverie and magic, like the paintings of Maxwell Parrish. He has an exhibition of his work in Somerset House, October 18th to January 27th 2013.
