'The air was soft, the stars so fine, the promise of every cobbled alley so great that I thought I was in a dream' Jack Kerouac 'On the Road'
It may seem like a dream to Sam Riley that after years of near misses where 'On the Road' has almost been made into a film, at last it's happening with him in the lead role.
Originally Kerouac wrote to Marlon Brando hoping that he would do the job. Marlon never replied. Francis Ford Coppola picked up the rights forty years ago, and his casting sessions include Matthew McConaughey, a youthful Russell Crowe, and Brad Pitt who now says he's glad that he didn't make it as the pressure would have been too much....
Fast forward to Riley, a Yorkshireman who went to the same boarding school as Stephen Fry, but later; was a model for Burberry in 2008, but has at least some experience in playing edgy real characters, having played Ian Curtis of Joy Division in 'Control'.
Well, we'll see, the film opens 12th October.....
